Entry requirements for students from Japan

We have been welcoming students from Japan for many years and our staff are very familiar with the Japanese education system and qualifications.

High entrance requirements for our degree programmes at Sheffield reflect the quality of the University.

All applicants are required to have an internationally recognised English language qualification such as IELTS or equivalent. The minimum score that is accepted for entry is IELTS 6  or equivalent. Some departments may require a higher score.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate Programmes e.g. BSc, BA, BEng/ MEng

A variety of qualifications can be considered for direct admission to undergraduate bachelor degree programmes. All applications for undergraduate programmes should be made through UCAS.

A Level

Applicants with a minimum of 3 A levels will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

International Baccalaureate

International Baccalaureate diploma holders will be considered for direct admission to undergraduate programmes.

Other qualifications

Junior College Diplomas

Applicants with a good Junior College Diploma from a recognised college in Japan will be considered for direct entry to undergraduate degree programmes.

International College

Our International College provides undergraduate foundation programmes specifically designed for students seeking entry into the University of Sheffield.

Postgraduate Taught Programmes e.g. MA, MSc

Holders of a good bachelor degree from a recognised university in Japan will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or masters programmes.

Other qualifications

Students who have completed the Northern Consortium UK (NCUK) Pre-Masters Programme and achieved the required academic and English grades will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate degree programmes at the University of Sheffield.

For Entry to MBA

Holders of a good bachelor degree from a recognised university in Japan and at least 3 years´ post-graduation work experience will be considered for direct admission to the MBA programme. Applicants must be at least 25 years old by the time the programme starts.

Our International College provides pre-masters programmes specifically designed for students seeking entry into the University of Sheffield.

Postgraduate Research Programmes e.g. MPhil, PhD, PhD with Integrated Masters

Holders of a good bachelor degree and a good masters degree from a recognised university in Japan will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.
