Why Sheffield?

Firstly, the course at the University of Sheffield is ideal for me to broaden my skills into management areas that will complement my existing expertise. In addition, Sheffield can be considered as a safe city. Living expenses including accommodation and food are also much lower than other big cities in the UK. Finally, the University of Sheffield offering scholarships is also an attractive option for studying.

How did you find out about the scholarships on offer?

yushanI found out the Overseas Excellence Scholarship on the official website of chemical and process engineering. On the other hand, I attended a recruitment event where I learned about the other scholarships on offer.

How did your scholarship impact your Sheffield experience?

I really appreciate being awarded a scholarship so that I can fulfill my dream of studying abroad. In addition to strengthening my English, I have also learnt a lot of practical skills which help me prepare for my future career. The scholarships really alleviate my financial burden for studying in the UK.

What would you say to others unsure of whether to study at Sheffield?

The people here including teachers and classmates are friendly and I made a lot of friends in summer school, modules and Gospel Choir. Sheffield has a diverse campus with a lot of international students studying here and I can experience different cultures. Apart from studying the academic modules, there are also many practical courses, such as English language classes and workshops for developing my skills. The Students' Union offers many activities and I have attended many of them, such as one-day trip to other cities or towns in the UK, “Give it a go” which is the first time I tried singing in a Gospel choir and a big Halloween party which gave me a chance to experience this festival. Studying in the UK is totally different from in Taiwan since they emphasize independent learning, critical thinking and teamwork. If I could turn back time, I would make the same decision of studying in University of Sheffield!
