“Sheffield has so many activities available for everyone in the community to get involved in, especially students and there is so much support offered to the various social groups.”

What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?

I first heard about Sheffield through a friend who had studied there the year before. His review about the University was excellent, I was impressed by how diverse and friendly the University was, and decided to research more about the course at Sheffield.

According to the university league table produced by the Guardian, the University of Sheffield ranked high in Politics, student satisfaction, and employability, the living expenses in Sheffield were also relatively cheaper than other regions in the UK. All these factors, together with the scholarship, convinced me to choose the University of Sheffield as my destination for postgraduate study.

What was your initial impression of Sheffield and the University when you first arrived?

My first impression of Sheffield was that the city was hilly. However, the University staff were so lovely and my experience in the accommodation, my course, and the societies were fantastic.

What are the highlights of your experience in Sheffield so far?

Almost every day in Sheffield there is an activity organised by the Students’ Union (Give It A Go events) for students to participate in. With more than 300 societies to choose from, I've made the most of my time at the University by joining societies such as the Sheffield Model United Nations and Amnesty International societies. The Activities fair at the beginning of the semester also allowed me to take part in some volunteering activities at the University and in the city.

What would you say to a student considering studying at The University of Sheffield?

The city and the University of Sheffield are fantastic places to study. You may feel homesick for a few days if you are an international student or living away from home, but don’t worry, as all the exciting activities throughout the year will take any sadness away. The fact that you can choose your modules allows you to tailor your course and the workshops conducted by the Careers Service will equip you with the necessary skills and prepare you for your future career.
