" The University of Sheffield just stood out. Aside from that, the city is wonderful. Friendly faces, tons of heavenly greenery (which really helps your mental health) and lots of things to do – I couldn’t be happier with my choice."

What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?

I picked biomedical sciences due to my passion for biology and medical related sciences. It is an extremely important field to be in, especially in the future as we continue to look for potential cures and solutions to various biological scenarios. There are loads of job opportunities after you graduate, and the university is great as it fully supports you in finding the perfect one.

Bioscience courses here at Sheffield are one of the best in the UK and in the world, which is the main reason I decided to study here, along with the university being highly respectable and a top 100 world university. The University of Sheffield just stood out. Aside from that, the city is wonderful. Friendly faces, tons of heavenly greenery (which really helps your mental health) and lots of things to do – I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

How did you research the University to find out about studying in Sheffield?

I already knew that the university was one of the best in the world, so I immediately considered it as one of my options. One of my teachers was from Sheffield and so he also described the area to me which made me interested in it. This made me visit the university website. I looked through almost every page! I also attended virtual open days, watched many YouTube videos and talked to previous students and instantly loved the university. All the staff and students are lovely as well, you won’t ever feel like you are alone. There are hundreds of online resources for you to look deeper into the university and see what you are getting into. It really helped form my decision.

What are you enjoying about your first semester?

I love how I am gaining independence as I must do everything myself compared to having my family do everything for me. Being independent is a valuable life skill and I am glad that I am learning it along with my university studies.

To add on, the first semester was an opportunity for me to meet new people. Sheffield is such a diverse and colourful city, so it is super easy to make friends for life here.

Lastly, I was impressed by all the state-of-the-art facilities at the university, especially the ones we use in the lab. I’m having a lot of fun using them. It is an experience I wouldn’t have obtained at any other university. It is definitely a step up from what I used at A-levels but nonetheless we were taught how to use all the facilities by experts in their fields, so I feel more professional while using them!
