“Everyone I’ve ever met has been so kind, regardless of where you are from. Not once have I regretted coming to Sheffield.”

How did you feel when you heard that you were successful in being awarded the scholarship?

I felt like I was walking on air and was very honoured to have been awarded the NCUK Undergraduate Scholarship. Not only was I awarded the scholarship because I got high marks in my international foundation year but the NCUK course staff and my peers gave me feedback and helped me prepare for assignments and exams in order to improve my academic skills. I will never forget the help I had over the past year and will study hard at the University of Sheffield.

What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?

I chose the University of Sheffield to study Mechanical Engineering as I was fascinated by the project at the University which was launched to fix underground pipes with robots. Since the professors had been active in research on sensors, vibration control and mechanics of materials behaviour I was convinced that I could effectively learn how these theories work in industry and that it would strengthen my understanding of what mechanical knowledge should be applied to systematise robotics to solve real-life problems.

How did you research the University to find out about studying in Sheffield?

Four factors which I mainly considered when choosing my university were the reputation, course modules, support and living costs. I researched these factors through the internet and by asking NCUK course staff and students who graduated from the University. I then decided to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield which had proven to be the best for those four factors.

What was your initial impression of Sheffield and the University when you first arrived?

Right after I first arrived in Sheffield, I realised why the NCUK course staff and students recommended the University when they were asked which city and university they would choose if they had a chance to apply to university again. Sheffield is a really friendly and international city.

What would you say to a student considering studying at the University of Sheffield?

Don’t be hesitant to apply to the University of Sheffield if you are passionate about learning, it also has a really supportive environment. I can guarantee that the University of Sheffield, will not only provide you with all the support and opportunities you need but provide support in areas you didn’t know you needed.
