Sheffield is a vibrant city and the University has a great campus
How did you feel when you heard that you were successful in being awarded the scholarship?
I felt so happy, and felt a great sense of achievement for being able to secure such a prestigious scholarship which has seen Vice Presidents and Minister’s from different countries as recipients.
I also felt proud for being able to get a scholarship that enables future leaders to study in the best universities in the UK, giving them the opportunity to develop academically and professionally.
What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?
Given my previous experience working in Project Management in the Oil and Gas industry back home and my future career plans I started to research a Masters in Management in the top UK universities for Management studies, and looking at their research.
My decision to pick Sheffield wasn’t just because of the University and Management School but also because of the reviews students gave based on their experience. I watched tours of the city on YouTube capturing the green spaces and vibrant atmosphere, and decided to apply to Sheffield.
What was your initial impression of Sheffield and the University when you first arrived?
It was a great first impression, it was sunny the first two weeks and it really felt like home. I had the opportunity to explore the city as the weather was so good too. The city has plenty of history and I really like the Sheffield Town Hall building and the cathedral and museums, despite new construction developments, it still remains a beautiful city. There are several parks around the campus, which makes me feel closer to nature and encourages me to go for walks.
What would you say to a student considering studying at the University of Sheffield?
The staff and lecturers have also been very helpful and supportive. There are specific services to help students with a variety of things such as accommodation, careers advice and international student support, the Students’ Union is also one of the best, it organises a variety events and allows students to get the most out of university life. You will never feel alone and there is always support available, when there is a need. The University hosts an environment of collaboration, diversity and inclusion.
