My degree is all about practical work and interactive learning - which I enjoy!
Whenever I thought of a career, I knew I wanted to do something that benefits the economy, environment and people at the same time. I believe that studying engineering would help me accomplish that. I also wanted to do a course that constantly challenges me and makes me push my limits. I specifically chose Electronics and Communication Engineering because this field offers diverse career options and the possibility for growth is endless here. I wanted my degree to be mainly about practical work and giving presentations and explain my approach and my findings in a very systematic and confident way. Which would equip me with very important technical and transferable skills. I also had an option to include a year in industry with this course. This would give me an opportunity to apply all the skills I acquired so far at university and give me first-hand experience of working in industry. These reasons made studying Electronics and Communication Engineering the best option for me.
As a student, I have an unbelievable number of opportunities come my way which have made major contributions towards my personal and professional development.
In the beginning of second year, we had a visit to AMRC factory 2050 where we had an opportunity to interact with engineers working there and learn about Collaborative Robots which could potentially be the foundation of industrial revolution 4.0. The visit was a key highlight of my course so far.
Global Engineering Challenge and Engineering You are Hired are two multidisciplinary projects organised by the faculty of engineering. These projects give us a fine insight into industrial problem solving and they equip students with skills required for workplace.
I am currently acting as the Vice-President of Women in Engineering Society and EEE society. The experience of taking an important role in 2 societies is extremely rewarding and challenging at the same time. I am meeting a lot of inspiring people and it is an amazing opportunity to surround yourself with a lot of motivation. The network of friends and mentors I have built because of my roles constantly pushes me not just towards being a good engineer, but also towards becoming the best version of myself.
This is an amazing place to study and grow. The University of Sheffield not only offers brilliant academic experience but also has a wide range of activities of everyone. Whatever your interests are, there is always something for everyone here.
