What are your main responsibilities in your current role?
My current role is coordinating and teaching vocational English courses in the Faculty of Health Science, Engineering and Veterinary Medicine at Bursa Uludağ University.
Please outline your career history: how did you get to where you are today?
My priority in my life has been my education and professional development embraced with social activities, which has echoed my freedom, happiness and peace. Thus, I have actively participated in courses that I took during my double major undergraduate education in Turkey and postgraduate education in the UK. Also, I have participated in social activities (e.g., monthly reading groups to discuss the month of the novel, trekking, theater and volleyball) actively, activities for my professional development (e.g., research group meetings, academic conferences, training) and to be human (volunteer work for the blind people, children with learning disabilities, orphans and earthquake victims). I am a keen reader. I have been using the library to study and use the resources regularly.
Why did you want to come to the University of Sheffield to study your chosen degree?
I obtained my MA in the UK, which has contributed to my professional development considerably and my supervisor was working at the University Sheffield. I chose my supervisor, Professor Dr. Nigel Harwood, also the library and university facilities are awesome. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The city is full of friendly people.
What were your favourite things about or best memories of the University of Sheffield?
My best memory was the graduation ceremony, which was awesome and very professional, and also the peaceful city with friendly people.
Please explain how has your qualification and/or time at Sheffield helped you in your career?
My confidence has increased and I have had several job offers. I am feeling very proud of being one of the graduates and alumni of the University of Sheffield.
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
Receiving the young scholar award during my PhD education because of my publications in citation indexed journals has been my greatest achievement.
