We are pleased to be able to pay tribute to distinguished colleagues with our tradition of naming rooms in their honour.
On 15th November 2010 we were delighted to welcome Professor Emeritus Tom Wilson and Mrs Joan Saunders to the School, along with other former staff and guests, to celebrate the careers of Professor Wilson and Professor Wilf Saunders, late husband of wife Joan, and recognise their contribution by dedicating a teaching space and meetings room to them.
The Professor Tom Wilson Teaching Laboratory (formerly the Micros Lab/RC-205) was officially opened by Professor Wilson, Head of Department from 1982 to 1997 and world-leading academic in the fields of information seeking behaviour, information management, business information and technology applications, accompanied by former and current colleagues and a full class of undergraduate students.
The Meetings Room was officially renamed the Professor Wilf Saunders Meetings Room after the founding Director of the Postgraduate School of Librarianship (now the Information School) Wilf Saunders, the ceremonial ribbon being cut by Professor Saunders' wife Joan.
The rooms join the Professor Mike Lynch Laboratory in paying tribute to the work of former colleagues.
