I research the use of e-Health resources, health information needs and information behaviours, and applications of artificial intelligence and data mining techniques to analysing health information. I am particularly interested in how patients, carers and health professionals seek, obtain and share information in relation to their health and well-being through online digital resources.

I am interested in how people develop trust in and use online health information, from a general point of view as well as looking at specific medical conditions (e.g. endometriosis, post traumatic stress disorder, etc.). I am also interested in how carers of people suffering from degenerative illnesses can be provided long-term well-being while looking after a loved one.

I am currently researching how people with life-shortening or long-term conditions share information and experiences online. This work is being undertaken as part of the larger ‘A Shared Space and a Space for Sharing’ project which aims to explore how people in a range of extreme circumstances engage in acts of sharing. In particular the project is examining how trust and empathy are developed as part of this sharing process.
