Information Security for Research
Assured Computing
The Assured Computing Service is our security certified suite, available to all members of the University. It provides computing (Managed Desktop, YoYo Desktop, Research Virtual Machines), storage (Research Data Storage) and collaboration tools (Google Suite) that meets the working requirements of the majority of researchers.
Assured Computing is independently certified to Cyber Essentials +, recognised by HM Government as a baseline security standard for working with sensitive data. Cyber Essentials is increasingly a mandatory requirement for those working with external research partners. By using this service you can quickly give external research partners assurance of security.
For more information visit the Assured Computing pages.
Compliance and Assurance
External research partners are increasingly looking for research projects to comply with recognised standards and/or provide assurance that information is secure. Common requirements include:
- Cyber Essentials
- Cyber Essentials +
- NHS Information Governance Toolkit
- ISO 27001
- SOC 2
Partners may also ask you to complete a data/information governance/security/compliance document or questionnaire.
It is important that any information you provide is accurate. As such we strongly recommend contacting the Information Security Team at info-security@sheffield.ac.uk who can provide support and guidance.
