Connecting your Mac to University Filestore (Novell)

Macs do not automatically connect to your personal filestore and shared filestore, but it is easy to do. The following instructions relate to Mac OS X 10.10 and above.

Connecting to personal and shared filestore

  1. From the Finder menu bar, click on Go.
  2. Choose Connect to server
  3. The Connect to server window will appear.
  4. 4. In the Server Address box type smb:// followed by your server name, :139 and the area you want to access e.g. smb://stfdata01:139/usrt16/
  5. Click the + to add it to your list of Favourite servers so you won't have to remember it.
  6. Click Connect.
  7. In the login window select Registered user
  8. Enter your university username and password, then click Connect.
  9. Your filestore will now appear in a new Finder window

Server names for shared and personal filestore

  • For your personal and shared filestore your server is where your filestore is. You can find your server name under Server from the Display Novell filestore information option in Computer user account management e.g. ladybower

Area names for shared and personal filestore

  • For your personal filestore the area name will appear as usr followed by a number. You can find your area name under Volume from the Display Novell filestore information option in Computer user account management e.g. usr42
  • For shared filestore drives the area name will appear as shared followed by a number e.g. shared42
