Hats off to graduates!

Three years of hard work culminated in a celebration as 61 students of
Sheffield's Department of Journalism Studies received their Bachelor of Arts
Degrees on July 18.

Students, accompanied by family and friends, and members of staff attended a celebratory lunch in a marquee pitched in the Quadrangle of Firth Court.

The head of the department, Professor Peter Cole, welcomed the guests and congratulated the graduands.

Leading industry figures and good friends of the department were present including Tony Watson, Editorial Director of the Press Association and Will Venters, Head of News at ITV.

In brilliant sunshine the students gathered in the courtyard for the traditional "hats in the air" photograph.

The graduation prize winners

A number of special prizes were presented to students of exceptional performances in their degree work. The PA Prize for the Highest Performance in the BA degree was presented by Mr Watson to Jonathan Lewis.

The Sheffield Star Prize for the Best Print Portfolio was presented jointly to Hannah Postles and Jaemie Gallie.

The ITV News Prize for Best Broadcast Portfolio was presented by Mr Venters to Felicity Hay who was recently named News Writer of the Year and Student Journalist of the Year in the Press Gazette Student Journalist Awards.
