Former student wins exam prize

A former Sheffield journalism student has won a prize for gaining the best mark in the NCTJ public affairs examination.

Jonathan Haynes

Jonathan Haynes, who graduated with an MA in Web Journalism last year, won the LG Communications Prize which carries an award of £250.

A panel of representatives from the Local Government Association judged Jonathan’s effort to be the best of the year’s entries.

Jonathan, who now works as a journalist with the Press Association, said: "When I think back to studying for the public affairs paper, I was just hoping to pass it - I was delighted with the result at the time, so to get the prize is a bonus - and as a journalist just starting out on my career, the money is more than welcome!"

The prize was presented at the NCTJ’s Essex headquarters on June 6.
