Sheffield graduate wins Laurence Stern fellowship

Sheffield journalism graduate Michael Savage has won this year’s prestigious Laurence Stern fellowship, and in July will begin a three month internship at the Washington Post.

The annual award, established in honour of the famous Post journalist, identifies one of the most promising young journalists working in Britain and provides the great experience of working for one of the world’s most famous newspapers.

Past winners of the fellowship include Today presenter James Naughtie, Financial Times editor Lionel Barber, Guardian winner of the British Press Awards Reporter of the Year, Paul Lewis, Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland, assistant editor Ian Katz and investigations editor David Leigh.

Michael Savage, political correspondent of the Independent, took the Sheffield MA in Print Journalism in 2006-07.
