Sheffield to host journalism safety event

The University of Sheffield is to host an event dealing with safety measures for journalists working in dangerous settings.

Journalism has become one of the most dangerous professions in the world, and in the last 10 years more than 1,200 journalists and news media employees have been killed around the world while reporting news stories.

Although a degree of risk associated with journalistic work is unavoidable, the one-day event will look at the important steps that can be taken to reduce the chances of being hurt or killed.

Speakers at the event will be:

Scheduled for 12 noon on 31 July 2012, and aimed at future journalists, the event is free for BA and MA journalism students at the University of Sheffield.
