The department has achieved top positions for research environment and for the impact of work undertaken by the department's research centre, the Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM).

The results, published on 18 December 2014, show that 100% of our research impact was judged as world-leading or internationally excellent and our research environment (the strategy, resources and infrastructure that support research) was judged to be of world-leading quality.

Professor Jackie Harrison, joint head of department, said: "This is an excellent outcome for the department. We are delighted that the quality of our research and its impact have been recognised."
