In order to gain building access you will now need to log on at https://bars.shef.ac.uk and enter your CICS username and password. At that point the system will pick up your u-card number automatically.
You then need to click on 'new request’ and select the location you want on the drop down menu ‘select location’ e.g. ‘Kroto main/link bridge 8-6’. Please only apply for one request at a time i.e. either 24/7 or 8-6 (Working hours). Once you have made your choice the system will go through the approval process.
If it asks for ‘staff contact’ and you are a student please put your supervisor’s name/email address.
1. Academic Supervisor
2. Lab Supervisor (if you’re applying for access to a lab with a swipe card)
3. Building Admin
If your request is denied by any of the above you will get an email and it is then up to you to discuss it with the academic supervisor or lab supervisor and reapply from scratch, if applicable, once the issue is resolved.
You will get an email when your card has been authorised by the system and will be sent to Estates for activation.
Please note - Undergraduates are permitted working hours access only.
Post-graduate students or staff - If you only require working hours access please complete the online fire training. We will not approve your request until you have confirmed to us you have passed the training or your name appears on the Fire Training Database.
All staff and postgraduate students must complete the new online fire training module even if they have completed the previous version in the last 12 months.
There’s also a new online version of the Out of Hours training which must be taken if you work outside standard hours (8am-6pm at KRI), weekends or bank holidays. This needs updating once every three years.
To view the online courses please visit https://hs.shef.ac.uk/
We will not approve your request until you have confirmed you have passed the training via email or your name appears on the Fire Training and/or Out of Hours training database as applicable. You must confirm training within 2 weeks of the access request or the request will be denied.
