Jacob says: "this project demonstrates how a more strategic and adaptable approach to inner-city development can prepare the city of Birmingham for future climate uncertainty. The development site, Birmingham Eastside Locks, is a post-industrial canalside landscape located within Birmingham’s central Eastside district. The landscape vision is to deliver a resilient ‘Urban Naturehood’, promoting the creative integration of vegetation within a high-density urban neighbourhood."

"A core element of the project is the use of resilient urban tree communities with capabilities to withstand both the environmental stresses associated with the urban environment, and the uncertain climatic scenarios that Birmingham faces. Responsive site management was another key theme explored throughout the project. The management approach advocates the importance of collaborative working, strategic thinking and adaptability to respond to changing local conditions and help secure long-term viability."
