Researcher biography

2015-2016 - MSc Environment and Human Health University of Exeter
2010-2013 - BSc (hons) Geography with Environmental Management University of Exeter

I am interested in how the natural environment can be integrated into social welfare to improve health and wellbeing, this is often referred to as green care. My project is primarily focused on green care within the urban environment in Sheffield. It is closely linked to a three-year research project entitled Improving Wellbeing through Urban Nature: integrating green/blue infrastructure and health service valuation and delivery.

This research project is a collaboration between the University of Sheffield, the University of Derby, Cardiff University, Heriot Watt University, the Wildlife Trusts, Recovery Enterprises and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare.

My previous research as a master’s student focused on quantitative analysis of non-frequent users of the natural environment through Natural England’s Monitor of Engagement with the Natural Environment survey. I am interested in our connection with nature and how this can be harnessed to improve the health of both nature and humans.

With experience of working with young people and mental health problems I am passionate about integrating preventative measures into our surroundings. Through this more qualitative PhD research I hope to improve how urban green spaces are used and developed to improve the health and wellbeing benefits for the surrounding population.
