GLOSS gives students an exciting opportunity to go to major international events or conferences, pursue international research and gain hands on experience in the field of international development.
Emily attended the G20 Summit alongside seven other University of Sheffield students. At the summit there were opportunities to attend press conferences by world leaders including UK Prime Minister Theresa May, President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey. The students were also interviewed by news reporters, wrote numerous blogs and each prepared a policy brief on one of the key themes of the summit.
Emily’s policy brief on “‘Mother Nature’: The Role of Women in Addressing Climate Change” has now been published in the Global Policy Journal and can be found here.
Emily also had the opportunity to explore more of Japan in her free time, of which she felt was a great team bonding exercise for her group. As one of our Widening Participation students, Emily has embraced this international experience.
This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget, and I am truly grateful to have been given this opportunity thanks to GLOSS.
