Basic Litigation Skills for Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys

The Centre for Professional Legal Education at the University of Sheffield has been accredited by IPReg (the regulatory body of Patent Attorneys and Trade Mark Attorneys) to deliver this five day course. Successful completion of the assessments allows the candidate to apply to IPReg for the award of the Intellectual Property Litigation Certificate.

The course will be structured around three days of workshop style teaching followed by two days some weeks later covering advocacy skills and the assessments. There will be the opportunity for consolidation and revision during the period between the two blocks of teaching.

The assessments will be in the form of a two hour written paper and a ten minute oral advocacy skills assessment on the final day of the course.


£1700 - standard fee

Course fees include all course materials, refreshments and examination entry fees. Resit examination fees are payable. Any resit assessments will be charged at the rate of £275.00 for the written assessment and £200.00 for the oral assessment.

Please note that courses may have a minimum attendance level and may be cancelled or postponed if too few bookings are received.

If the University should have to postpone the delivery of a short course, or cancel the course, the University shall notify you as soon as possible.

We will not be liable for any losses (including, but not limited to, travel and accommodation costs) arising as a consequence of any amendments or cancellation of courses or time-tabling constraints as set out above and beyond the cost of the course fee.
