Scholarships and funding

We are committed to giving you as many opportunities as possible to succeed. One of the ways we do this is through the range of scholarships that are available to you through the School as well as the wider University. There are a number of funding opportunities available to students from both the UK and overseas – click on the relevant level of study below to find out more.


Funding for undergraduate students

The University provides information for prospective home and EU undergraduates including details on tuition fees, scholarships, student loans and available sources of financial assistance throughout your studies.

Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, we are able to offer the Stephen Gale Scholarship, worth £5,000 each. Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit to support Sheffield Law students who want to study abroad as part of their undergraduate degree, initially at Chinese University of Hong Kong (one of the School’s 60+ international exchange partners).

150+ scholarships available worth £3,600 each for home and EU students starting their studies in September 2019.

Funding for postgraduate students

Edward Bramley Excellence Postgraduate Scholarship

We have one full fee waiver of £7,000 plus £4,000 towards living costs for an outstanding student.

Sheffield Postgraduate Scholarships

100+ ScholarshipsWe're offering over 100 scholarships worth £10,000 available to fund talented students starting a postgraduate taught course in 2019. 

The scholarships are for students who meet at least one of our widening participation criteria and/or students who achieve a first in their undergraduate degree. Successful applicants are able to use the scholarship towards fees or living expenses.

Postgraduate masters loans

Government loans of up to £10,609 are available to home students studying eligible Masters courses. 

Please note the following courses are not eligible: Postgraduate Certificate in International Criminology; Graduate Diploma in Law.

Diversity Access Scheme

The Law Society Diversity Access Scheme (DAS) aims to increase social diversity in the legal profession by supporting promising entrants from disadvantaged backgrounds or those who face exceptional obstacles to qualification. It provides awardees with: funding for up to the full cost of your LPC fees; a professional mentor to help answer your questions about starting a career in law; and work experience placements, brokered through the Law Society. 

10% discount for Sheffield graduates

Previously studied with us? Our graduates can take advantage of a 10% discount on tuition fees thanks to our Alumni Rewards scheme.

Funding for international students

We believe in rewarding international applicants who show exceptional academic achievement and potential.
We have over £4.5 million available for international scholarships.

There are a range of options for funding your studies whatever your level of study, ranging from self-funding to receiving a scholarship.


International Undergraduate Merit Scholarships 2019

Competitive awards worth 50% of the tuition fee for an undergraduate degree programme starting in September 2019. The scholarship is available for new international (non-EU) students who meet the eligibility criteria.

Stephen Gale Scholarship Fund

Worth £5,000 each, scholarships will be awarded on academic merit to support Sheffield Law students who want to study abroad as part of their undergraduate degree, initially at Chinese University of Hong Kong (one of the School’s 60+ international exchange partners).

Postgraduate Taught Sheffield Scholarships 2019

Available to international students starting a taught masters programme in September 2019. Worth between £2,000 and £2,500, based on tuition fees.

LLM Excellence Prize

Excellence Prize for an LLM student from Thailand worth £17,600*.

LLM International Scholarship

Two International LLM Scholarships, each worth £4,000.

Finding funding for PhD research is not always easy. That's why the University invests heavily in providing scholarships for the brightest students.

Research degree scholarships

A number of scholarships for PhD students are available, and anyone planning to do postgraduate research in Law or Criminology is invited to apply.
