Professional Development in Learning and Teaching
LeTS staff have broad-based expertise in areas of professional development for learning and teaching. We support teaching practice through accreditation, certificates, award programmes and events. We run a range of scheduled courses and workshops to help staff develop the effectiveness of their teaching and evaluate student learning.

Professional Recognition through the Higher Education Academy
The Learning and Teaching Professional Recognition Scheme has been accredited by the HEA to AFHEA, FHEA and SFHEA. Full details and how to apply are available from the LTPRS website.
Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching for Learning in Higher Education (PGCertTLHE)
The Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching for Learning in Higher Education (PGCertTLHE) is the University's professional development programme for academic staff on probation and the successor programme to CiLT. It is specifically designed to meet both the needs of staff new to higher education teaching and new to the research-led environment of Sheffield University. The first modules will commence in autumn 2017.
Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (CiLT)
The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (CiLT) is the University's outgoing professional development programme for academic staff on probation. The programme is specifically designed to meet both the needs of staff new to higher education teaching and new to the research-led environment of Sheffield University. Module 2 will continue to run until all participants registered have completed. It is possible to RPL into Module 2 of CiLT until April 2018 (the last RPL applications will be accepted in December 2017).
Teaching Development for Researchers and Postgrads
The Sheffield Teaching Assistant offers professional development sessions for early career researchers and postgrads who teach in lab classes, seminars and lectures. A series of workshops provide an introduction to effective practice in the key areas of teaching activity. For postgrads this is fully integrated into the DDP.
The Senate Award Scheme aims to reward individuals for excellence in teaching and/or supporting and enhancing the students' learning experience. It also aims to encourage and promote good practice and raise the status of teaching and learning as a scholarly activity.
University of Sheffield Learning and Teaching Conference
The University of Sheffield holds an annual Learning and Teaching Conference in January. All staff and students are invited to discuss ideas in learning and teaching.
Collegiate Observation, Enquiry and Discussion
COED is for all staff involved in teaching and learning in any capacity at the University of Sheffield. It replaces the previous scheme, the Annual Dialogue.
Bespoke Learning & Teaching Support
The Team provides bespoke professional development support tailored to your needs. Our bespoke work covers a broad range of activities including developing assessment criteria, personal tutoring support, guidance on giving and eliciting feedback, curriculum design and delivery, presentations at faculty induction programmes, departmental away days, and teaching observations. Recent workshop themes include: learning outcomes, assessment criteria, internationalisation, transitions, and design of teaching sessions. We also support faculty Learning and Teaching Development Managers with the implementation of the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy, support for HEA Principal Fellowship, and for applications to the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme.
