Additional support: Helping you to use the Library

There are a number of ways in which we can help you to use the Library, including the following:

Help from a Library Support Worker

A Library Support Worker is a person allocated to you, to assist you in using the Library’s resources. This may include photocopying, printing and scanning and borrowing books on your behalf.

If you think you would benefit from having a Library Support Worker, please contact the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service.

Requesting assistance (Additional Support Card)

How do I ask for additional support without having to explain?

If you prefer not to have to inform Information Commons or Library staff of your dyslexia or disability when requesting additional support, a ‘Registered for Additional Support’ card can be provided. Simply show this to staff when you ask for assistance.

How do I obtain an Additional Support Card?

Please email lib-support@sheffield.ac.uk or contact a member of the additional support team.

Individual support from Library staff

You can arrange a tour of any of the Library sites, in which staff can advise you on the best ways to access resources, and also practical matters such as emergency evacuation procedures. A one to one advice session with a subject librarian can also be arranged.

If you would like to take advantage of either of these options, please contact the additional support team.

Requesting items for collection

You can request any library item that is not for reference use only. Your item will then be delivered to the library site of your choice for collection by you or your Library Support Worker.
