British Standards Online (BSOL)

**New security feature for PDF downloads from 1 September 2021. See below for details.**

BSOL is the platform for accessing full text BSI British Standards. It includes Pure British Standards, which have a BS prefix, BSI national adoptions of European Standards, which have a BS EN prefix, BSI national adoptions of selected International Standards from ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), which have the following prefixes: BS ISO, BS IEC, BS EN ISO, BS EN ISO/IEC.

Downloading PDFs

PDF downloads from BSOL incorporate a digital security feature. You are required to have FileOpen plug-in installed on your device to download and print all BSI documents. Adobe Acrobat or Reader is also required to view the documents on Windows and MacOS. Note that PDFs will not open in-browser - you have to download and save the PDF to open it. If you encounter an error, check that your browser is set to download PDFs and open with Adobe, rather than open automatically in-browser.

If you are using the University managed desktop, you can download 'FileOpen-Adobe' from the Software Center. This will also install Adobe DC if it is not already present. You can sign in to Adobe with your University account.

Use the 'Quick View' functionality to view documents on BSOL from within your browser. Quick View uses Flexpaper and does not require you to install anything to use it.

Access is available directly from this page by connecting to the BSOL website - you'll be prompted to log in to MUSE as necessary.
