As with all broadly based management schools, we contain strength in logistics and supply chain management (LSCM). We are different, however, from other Supply Chain oriented research groups due to our focus on the challenges that emerging technologies offer to adapting existing supply chains and the development and eventual maturation of new supply chains.
Our researchers are concerned about understanding the theoretical and practical interdisciplinary challenges that technology and innovation offers to managing supply chains. While we are based inside the Sheffield University School of Management we draw from expertise across the university, the country and globally.
The fundamental difference is to move beyond a focus on optimization and integration to also embrace risk, uncertainty, flexibility, change and dis-integration. Conditions that are less convenient, but more representative of the challenges and opportunities that our external partners face.
