Managing Competing Logics of Sustainability in a Value-Based Agricultural Cooperative

As part of sustainable food movement, we see a resurgence of agricultural production and marketing cooperatives (co-ops) in the past two decades. Inspired by the traditional values of cooperatives a century ago, the new cooperatives compete as an alternative value proposition to industrial food supply chain that is characterized by environmental and social issues associated with large-scale farming. These new cooperatives promote sustainable agricultural practices and economic well-being of rural communities and family farms.
Dr. Zhaohui Wu (Ph.D., Arizona State University) is an associate professor of supply chain management in the College of Business at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. He is a recipient of The Leverhulme Trust of Visiting Professorship at The University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.
