Lei gained a Masters in Finance (MFin) in International Finance, an MRes in Accounting and Finance and a PhD in Accountancy from the University of Glasgow.

She is also a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Prior to her appointment at University of Sheffield in 2014, she worked at Keele University as a lecturer in accounting and University of Exeter as an associated lecturer.

Before moving into academia, she worked in the banking sector in China for several years.

Research interests

Lei's research interests cover a range of topics, including intangible measurement, management and disclosure, corporate social responsibility, financial institutions and financial markets.

She is also interested in research methods, particularly focusing on the development of mixed methods in accounting and management research.

Research group

Lei is interested in supervising PhD students in the areas of financial reporting, social and environmental reporting, corporate social responsibility, and banking (with particular reference to China and other developing countries).

She is also keen to supervise PhD students who conduct interdisciplinary projects using mixed methods.

Teaching activities

Lei has teaching experience in financial management, management accounting and financial accounting.

She is currently the module leader for the second year undergraduate module Intermediate Financial Accounting.

This module bridges the gap between the first year Introduction to Financial Accounting module and the third year Advances in Financial Accounting module, seeking to equip students with the necessary accounting techniques in order to prepare final accounts.
