I am a Research Associate at the Centre for Regional Economic and Enterprise Development (CREED) at the Sheffield University Management School. Before joining Sheffield University, I was a Visiting Researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden, where I also completed my PhD in Business Administration in November 2017. Prior to pursing the doctoral degree, I worked for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Kenya and Italy, where I was involved in the financial and operational management of various food security projects.

Teaching Interests

I am interested in teaching courses on social entrepreneurship, women’s entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship in developing economies, and on cultural diversity & inclusivity in the workplace.

Research Interests

My research interests are in the areas of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education, SMEs growth and venture financing, and primarily focuses on issues of identity, gender and culture in developed and developing countries contexts. My PhD dissertation focused on understanding women’s entrepreneurial identities in different socio-cultural contexts. I assumed a comparative stance by analyzing women entrepreneurs participating in entrepreneurship programs in Sweden and Tanzania.

Currently I am working with colleagues at CREED on a number of projects looking at SMEs innovation and productivity, evaluating the wider social/societal impacts of projects, and exploring the potential of innovators with disabilities, as well as those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. This builds on my previous research by looking at the impact of gender and cultural diversity on innovation, and building knowledge on socio-cultural factors influencing entrepreneurial ecosystems.

PhD Supervision

I am interested in supervising PhD students in the following areas:

Women’s entrepreneurship
Social entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship education
Entrepreneurship in emerging/developing economies
SME growth and innovation
Micro/rural finance, venture financing
