Project

MarsWorks

Project MarsWorks are a student-led team with over 20 members at the University of Sheffield who design and build Mars rovers.

About MarsWorks

A student-led project building a Mars Rover for international competition.

We design and develop full-size Mars rovers for international competitions. Our team consists of members from different engineering backgrounds who are given the opportunity to develop their skills outside of lecture theatres.

Whilst studying for a degree, we can get hands on experience building a rover. We are simultaneously learning how the industry operates and expanding our network. Not to mention, we travel internationally to compete with other university teams and learn from their designs!

The Competitions

Each year we work hard to design, manufacture, and compete with a new rover in the Anatolian Rover Challenge or European Rover Challenge. Each of the competitions have two main components, technical documentation, and a series of missions:

Anatolian Rover Challenge (ARC)

ARC ran for the first time in July 2022, in which we were the only team from the UK to compete! The competition takes place in Istanbul, Turkey and they are planning another event for 2023!

European Rover Challenge (ERC)

The team competed at ERC in 2019. It is one of the biggest international space and robotics events in the world. The finals take place in Poland in September.
