BMS6007: Mass Spectrometry-based Proteomics and Metabolomics Course
Mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics are powerful approaches to investigate biological problems in an unbiased and quantitative manner. In recent years, rapid technological developments have allowed unprecedented insights into protein function and has made proteomics an essential tool for many areas of biological and medical research. The field of proteomics spans a wide range of molecular complexity from protein synthesis and degradation, protein interactions and protein complexes to a variety of post-translational modifications. Metabolomics, the systematic study of the diverse range of small molecule products of the proteome is driven by a number of mass spectrometry approaches and has many applications from plants to the clinic.
This course aims to provide an introduction to mass spectrometry, proteomics and metabolomics and will explore how these technologies can be used to quantitatively dissect protein-protein interactions, characterise post-translational modifications and profile metabolomes and proteomes.

PhD students taking this DDP module must attend all sessions in order to complete the course.
