Our staff and students come from all over the worldIn the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, we are proud of our diversity. Staff, students and alumni come from all walks of life, and we consider ourselves to be fully inclusive.

We attract students and staff from all over the world. Currently you can find people from over 40 countries and 6 continents working together in the department, and we actively encourage interaction between groups.

Staff and students at the Materials International Coffee MorningOur MatSoc social group organises an annual International Coffee afternoon, where students and staff come together over coffee for a bit of social time away from lecture theatres and labs.

Hear from some of our current and recent internationals students about their experiences of the Department, the University and Sheffield. Or take a look at our blog, with posts from both students and staff about the Department and beyond.

Within the University there are a number of International Student Ambassadors who help in the recruitment of international students and help new students settle into life at the University of Sheffield.

Probably my favourite thing about Sheffield is the City. It is big enough that something is usually happening, but not too big that it is too crowded. The central location also allows for quick day or weekend trips to either the South of England or Scotland without the need for outrageous train travel times.

The University provides various activities to get involved in including events, sports and clubs. I have taken trips to many places including the Peak District and Manchester, as well attended film nights and the food festival as it's so easy to buy a ticket from the Students' Union.
