“I signed up to Give it a Go to experience activities I wouldn’t normally do, which included Swedish back massage, fencing, and kayaking amongst others. And at weekends, I attended Global Campus day trips, which was a great way to visit other cities without taking time out from my studies.”

Julia is now completing a PhD in Energy Storage. Check out her blog post

The University made relocating to Sheffield really easy. During Orientation Week, the Students’ Union organised several useful sessions to help new students settle in, such as how to open a bank account or tours around the campus. During this week, you are also able to meet with a lot of new students from all over the world in your same situation so it’s easy to make friends as soon as you arrive.

The University provides various activities to get involved in including events, sports and clubs. I have taken trips to many places including the Peak District and Manchester, as well attended film nights and the food festival as it's so easy to buy a ticket from the Students' Union.

Smithcha Kanjanawattana (Thailand) / MSc(Eng) Polymers and Polymer Composite Science and Engineering graduate 2016

The multidisciplinary approach of the course and how different lecturers provide their experience in the field is exciting. It gives you different perspectives on how to reach and, maybe, provide a solution to the current questions around materials science.

Probably my favourite thing about Sheffield is the City. It is big enough that something is usually happening, but not too big that it is too crowded. The central location also allows for quick day or weekend trips to either the South of England or Scotland without the need for outrageous train travel times.
