Research Associate in Intermediate Level Nuclear Waste Vitrification

A position is available for a Research Associate in the Department, to lead development of glass compositions for the immobilisation of intermediate level wastes using a novel melter system. The project is sponsored by Innovate-UK, to support the nuclear clean-up. The research project will be undertaken in collaboration with Glass Technology Services, Apollo Furnaces, Sellafield Sites and NNL. This position will focus on developing bespoke glass compositions for the vitrification of three major categories of intermediate level wastestream using a novel furnace design.

Team Leader - Quarrell Laboratory/Foundry

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader to manage the Departmental Foundry and Quarrell Laboratory based in the Sir Robert Hadfield Building. The role will be to support a wide-ranging service within the Department’s teaching and research infrastructure. You will pro-actively support students and staff within these areas by managing and developing a Foundry and High Temperature Manufacturing team in the field of glass/ceramics manufacture and metallurgy.
