Miranda Cooper

Degree: MSc Statistics

Graduate role: Senior Statistician, BresMed

Miranda completed our MSc Statistics course as a part-time distance learning student while working for health economists BresMed.

"During my second and third years of working at BresMed, a health economic consultancy based in Sheffield, I also studied for my MSc in Statistics at the University of Sheffield. I was a distance learner and the course was funded by my employer. Studying whilst working, though demanding at times, was highly beneficial as it allowed me to develop skills and knowledge which both enabled me to succeed on the masters course as well as progress within BresMed. The technical skills gained whilst studying also mean I am able to develop my understanding of both existing and novel methods within the field of health economics, which is continually evolving.

"My employer was very supportive whilst I was studying, and I believe this is because as the technical skills required are very specific and constantly evolving, it helps to be able train employees to the company’s requirements. BresMed likes to employ graduates with the right technical foundation skills and a willingness to learn, which can then be built upon with more advanced training. The MSc in Statistics benefited me and the company in many ways and is something I would happily recommend to others."
