Opportunities for employers

There are lots of good reasons to recruit students or graduates from this department to help your organisation succeed. Our students and graduates are equipped with a wide range of transferable and specialist skills, academic knowledge and a professional, enthusiastic approach which you can help you achieve your objectives. Whether you require assistance with a short-term project, are an experienced graduate recruiter, are new to recruitment or would like to test the water by offering a placement or internship, we can help.

The University of Sheffield Careers Service also provides tailored support to organisations seeking to advertise vacancies, raise their profile or develop closer links with the University. By gaining a good understanding of your needs and resources and with our internal networks we can work with you on developing and delivering an effective recruitment campaign. Visit the Careers Service website for more information, or see below for details of specific schemes and events.

Work experience

As well as normal work placements outside of term-time, one of the opportunities we offer to our undergraduates is a degree with employment experience. This is where students spend a year of their degree working for an organisation related to their studies, putting their scientific skills into practice and gaining valuable work experience. An unusual feature of our undergraduate degree structure is that students can spend their fourth year doing this, as a research project. Students taking this option often spend 12 months on a research project and usually go on to PhDs afterwards.

If you are interested in offering work experience to one of our students, please contact Dr Jim Gilmour (d.j.gilmour@sheffield.ac.uk, 0114 2224412).
