Ultrasonic Techniques for Longitudinal Stress Measurements in Railway Track

The work in this project will involve developing non-contact ultrasonic techniques for mapping longitudinal stress measurement in rails that occur at temperature extremes and lead to track buckling.
Lab tests will be developed initially to assess how the ultrasonic techniques can be used to measure stress in the rail before these are transferred to the field.
