Railway Wheel and Rail Wear Mapping

Project brief:

This project, which forms part of an international initiative studying wheel/rail interface issues, will involve collating and generating wear and friction data to produce maps for use in combination with multi-body dynamics simulations to form tools for predicting wheel and rail wear evolution.

Wear debris will also be collected from the field to support the analysis of dominant wear mechanisms.
