Profile

Dr Abulrub joined the University of Sheffield in 2018 with 15 years professional experience in higher education, including proven expertise in designing and developing inter-departmental programmes. This has involved delivering high-quality, industry-related professional postgraduate programmes with direct involvement in accreditation and quality assurance.

After receiving a BSc (Hon) degree in Engineering from Jordan, he went on to achieve his MSc at the University of Bath, where he was also awarded a scholarship for his PhD in Engineering. In 2008, Dr Abulrub was accredited as a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and was recognised as Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2015. He also holds a James Clayton Award for his Executive MBA studies at the University of Bath.

Prior to joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield, Dr Abulrub was the programme leader for MSc Engineering Business Management and MSc Engineering Management, delivered for CPD industrial students at The University of the West of England. He was also the subject lead for undergraduate engineering management, with responsibility for ensuring an innovative, enterprising learning environment adopting a holistic Programme Level Approach (PLA) to develop industry-ready graduates.

Dr Abulrub is active within the academic community with a real appreciation of higher education challenges for both institutions and the environment they operate in. He was a member of the University Enterprise Studios Network, Industrial Advisory Board and was later voted to the Faculty Board. This led to his appointment as a member of the Academic Board. He is also an external examiner at the University of Coventry for the Engineering Management stream and MBA dissertations.

He is also involved with various professional bodies, including an appointment by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to carry out competence-based assessment of professional individuals for the award of Chartered status. He is also a member of the Corporate Advisory Group for the Association of Project Management in the South West region. In addition, he was a Board Member in the South West region for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
