Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience
A letter from Professor Arshad Majid, Head of Department and Chair.
Welcome to the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Sheffield. Our central goal is to understand the mechanisms that underlie neurological diseases and to develop safe and effective therapies.
The Department of Neurosciences includes two world-leading institutes: Sheffield Institute for Translational Neurosciences (SITraN) and the Gene Therapy Innovation and Manufacturing Centre (GTIMC).
We have a team of dedicated, talented and accomplished neuroscientists and clinicians who work collaboratively across the various faculties at the University of Sheffield and beyond. A particular strength of our department is the close and collaborative working relationship with our teaching hospital (Sheffield Teaching Hospitals). This facilitates, the translation and ‘pull through’ of preclinical discovery to human trials.
Teaching the next generation of neuroscientists and clinician scientists is central to the department's mission and we have an exciting array of clinical, MSc and PhD opportunities.
As a department, we stand well poised to lead the next era of neurological discovery. Please join us on our exciting journey to build a brighter future for those living with neurological diseases.
