The guiding principle for my studies has been an interest in mathematics as a modelling tool. I obtained a BSc in Mathematics at Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy) and a MSc in Applied Mathematics at Universiteit Leiden (Netherlands). I carried out my Ph.D. project at the University of Sheffield on mathematical and computational modelling of cerebral vasospasm development and treatment, within the INSIGNEO Institute for in silico Medicine.

I have since joined the Mathematical Modelling in Medicine group where the main focus of my work is on the mathematical methods underlying the VIRTUheart™ software suite.

Research interests

I’m interested in the application of mathematical and computational methods to model biological processes and help solve clinical problems. I have so far focused on the cardiovascular system, from multiscale modelling (cell to tissue level) of how the structural constituents of the arterial wall change in vasospasm to working on the mathematics behind the VIRTUheart™ software suite, with a focus on the image reconstruction process to improve the accuracy of the 3D geometry and thus the predictions from CFD analysis.
