Visiting and Open Days

Attending one of our open days is a great opportunity to find out more about the orthoptic degree course, meet students and staff in the Academic Unit of Ophthalmology and Orthoptics, see our facilities and experience the University of Sheffield.

There are two different types of open days:

University Open Days – you can attend one of these before you apply to study.

Departmental Open Days – you will be invited to one of these after you have applied and if your application is considered suitable.

Departmental Open Days

Once you have applied for a place on the orthoptic degree and your application is considered suitable you will receive an invite to attend an orthoptic open day which will include an interview. You will also get the opportunity to listen to a talk, meet students and staff and go on a tour of our facilities with demonstrations.

University Open Days

The University of Sheffield runs a series of open days between June and October. If you are interested in studying at Sheffield it gives you a chance to come and take a look around and listen to several talks given by different departments.

You can book a place onto the orthoptic talk when you book a place on a University Open Day.

The orthoptic talk will give you information about the roles of an orthoptist, the orthoptic degree and career prospects. You will also get an opportunity to meet current students.

The university offers tours of the campus, the accommodation and the city, and you will be able to attend talks on a range of subjects including accommodation and finance.
