German Project Proficient 2 (MLT362B)
This unit aims to enable students at a 'Proficient' level of competence in the language to engage critically with a highly specialised topic normally closely related to their main field of study.

- Co-requisite: On consultation with the Language Co-ordinator only.
- Availability: Students of the University of Sheffield taking the module for credits.

- Contact times: Approximately 4 hours over the course of the semester to be arranged with the tutor.

Students who take this module acquire expert use of subject-specific terminology and discourse and to consolidate advanced research skills in relation to the language and field of study. Working under regular supervision, students will complete a written portfolio (2,500 - 3,000 words) and prepare a structured oral presentation summarizing authoritatively their research for a specialist audience and demonstrating their acquisition of relevant academic and linguistic skills.
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- perform at Level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- access, identify and analyse specialist information, by inference and deduction where necessary
- communicate their findings authoritatively in writing and speech in the target language to a specialist audience/reader, leading and controlling discussion, and referencing sources where appropriate
- show evidence of research-related skills, including the ability to plan a project and manage time.

Summative assessment:
- Project portfolio submitted in Week 12 (2/3 of the overall mark) and including a 2,500-3,000-word project report
- Spoken presentation (10-12 minutes) of the project to the group in Week 13 (1/3 of the overall mark)
- A pass grade will be awarded for the module only if a spoken presentation is delivered.
Feedback: Individual and collective feedback will be provided regularly throughout the semester during class activities and/or individually during advice sessions and upon submission of the project draft.
