Profile

Pol Masdeu Cañellas is the Catalan instructor at The University of Sheffield since September 2019. He is a member of Xarxa Llull, the university network of Catalan studies abroad, funded by Institut Ramon Llull. Pol holds a Master’s Degree in Catalan and Spanish Language Teaching (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). For his Master's dissertation, his research project focused on the benefits of collaborative writing through Google Drive for students as well as for teachers, who can observe the learning process of their students. He also has a Master’s in Communication Management (Universitat Pompeu Fabra). Previously, he studied a BA in Journalism (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, with a semester abroad at UCLA, Los Angeles), with a Political Science minor.

He is interested in how mass media, social media and cultural pieces can help students learn a foreign language. In his classes, he mixes historical and cultural content (including literature, music and cinema) with linguistic knowledge for a better immersion in the Catalan language. Pol organizes several events in Sheffield related to Catalan culture in collaboration with IRL.

He also taught Spanish language modules in the Hispanic Studies in SLC during the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic years.
