George Nicholson 60th birthday concerts
George Nicholson is celebrating his 60th birthday with two concerts in which he appears as both composer and performer. In the first he is joined by the other members of Triple Echo to perform music for soprano, clarinet and piano, including Schubert’s Shepherd on the Rock, works by Spohr, Berg, Schoenberg and Lutosławski, and two works of his own: Alla luna for trio and Fills for solo clarinet. In the second concert George conducts Jane Ginsborg (soprano) and members of the Sheffield University New Music Ensemble in the first performance of movements from his recently completed work Wessex Heights, based on the writings of Thomas Hardy, and his new arrangement for chamber ensemble of Holst’s Hardy-inspired orchestral work, Egdon Heath.
