Stephanie Pitts researching jazz audiences in Oxford
Dr Stephanie Pitts has been awarded a ‘rapid response grant’ by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities to carry out research on audience experience at The Spin jazz club in Oxford. This research continues her collaboration with Dr Karen Burland at the University of Leeds, building on their research at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival in August 2007. Stephanie and Karen are interested in audience loyalty to particular performers, venues and genres, and are carrying out a questionnaire, interview and diary study to understand the experience of jazz listeners. The Spin is co-run by Dr Mark Doffman, a Masters graduate of the department now doing post-doctoral research at the Open University. If you’ve ever been to a gig there, you can join in with the research by following the link to the online questionnaire.
