Music Department performers bring huge kudos to Sheffield on international festival stage!

Eight members of the Music Department (2 staff, 4 undergraduates and 3 graduates) plus one medic (who is heavily involved in Department ensembles) returned in triumph from their brilliant debut on the International Festival Stage last week.
The Cassini String Quartet, Jessop Wind Quintet and Tony Houghton were major players in the recent Charles Camilleri Memorial Festival with concerts in Ashford, London and Malta.
They took the stage individually in confident and brilliant tribute to the Composer and joined with the other artists from Europe, Malta, USA and Australia to form the Festival Orchestra led by Carmine Lauri (co-leader of the LSO) and conducted by Brian Schembri. The intensive programme of concerts, rehearsals and travel during the four days was exhausting but exhilarating and a great success, a unique experience for everyone involved and brought nothing but praise and plaudits from the Festival directors, fellow musicians and audiences alike. They have hugely enhanced their own reputations and brought great kudos to the quality of the Department’s performance provision and tradition as well as to the good name of the University and Sheffield.
