book cover

Andrew Killick has published a chapter entitled “An Ethnomusicology of Musical Art and Individual Success: Hwang Byungki and ‘National Music’ in the Republic of Korea” in the collection Ethnomusicological Encounters with Music and Musicians: Essays in Honor of Robert Garfias, edited by Timothy Rice (Ashgate, 2011). The collection consists of essays by scholars who, like Dr. Killick, are graduates of the ethnomusicology programme founded by Robert Garfias at the University of Washington. Dr. Killick’s research on the Korean composer Hwang Byungki is currently being developed into what will be the first book in English about an Asian composer who writes for traditional rather than Western instruments.
