Dr. David Patmore has been invited to take part in an international conference organised by the German Historical Insitutute in Rome this April. Entitled 'Maestro! - The Interpretive Art of Italian Conductors' the conference will examine the work of major musical figures such as Toscanini, Karajan, Sinopoi and Abbado, in relation to Italian musical life during the twentieth century. Dr. Patmore will be talking about the work of the two conductors Carlo Sabajno and Lorenzo Molajoli, who provided the back-bone of the operatic catalogues of the two rival European record labels HMV and Columbia during the 1920s and early 1930s. He will be the only English speaker amongst a distinguished roster that includes experts from the Universities of Berlin, Cologne, Florence, Mainz, Rome, Vienna and Zurich. The conference will take place at the Istituto Storico Germanico, Via Aurelia Antica, Rome, on the 26th April 2012.
